What you need before buying USDT
You need a verified P2P account, an active Telebirr wallet with enough balance, and the seller's payment details. Make sure your account name matches your Telebirr name to avoid payment delays or disputes.
Step 1: Choose a seller
Open the P2P market, select 'Buy USDT', and filter by payment method. Look for sellers with high completion rates, recent online status, and fair prices relative to the market rate.
Step 2: Enter the amount and open the trade
Enter how much ETB you want to spend. The platform will lock the seller's USDT in escrow. Do not send payment until the seller's crypto is confirmed in escrow.
Step 3: Pay with Telebirr
Send the exact ETB amount using Telebirr to the account number shown in the trade. Upload or note the transaction reference. Do not mention 'crypto', 'USDT', or 'P2P' in the payment note.
Step 4: Confirm and release USDT
Mark the payment as sent and wait for the seller to confirm. Once confirmed, escrow releases the USDT to your wallet. If the seller does not confirm, open a dispute with your Telebirr receipt.
Tips to stay safe
- Only pay sellers with verified accounts
- Never release crypto before confirming payment
- Keep all chat and receipt evidence inside the app
- Start with a small amount for your first trade
